چکیده
Introduction Cardiac MR imaging allows for the examination of anatomy, function, and metabolism and its clinical use is steadily increasing. It poses unique challenges to the imaging protocols as it requires high spatial resolution over a larger volume in the presence of cardiac and breathing motion. This overview of cardiac MRI discusses methods to reduce motion artifacts and various clinical applications including the assessment of cardiac function, dark blood sequences for the visualization of anatomy, cardiac perfusion and viability studies with the administration of a contrast agent, and imaging of the coronary arteries.

Correlation between QRS Complex Changes and Cardiac Iron Overload in Beta Thalassemia Major Patients Using T2*MRI
Background and purpose: Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a costly method to assess cardiac iron overload. The presence of fragmented QRS (fQRS) indicates changes due to iron overload in cardiac tissue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between fQRS and cardiac iron overload using cardiac MRI in patients with β-thalassemia major (β-TM). Materials and methods: This...
متن کاملAssociation between serum ferritin level, cardiac and hepatic T2-star MRI in patients with major β-thalassemia
Background Frequent blood transfusion is often associated with iron overload. Proper use of iron chelators to treat iron overload requires an accurate measurement of iron levels. Magnetic resonance T2-star (T2* MRI) can measure iron level in the heart and liver. Our goal was to see whether an association exists between serum ferritin level and T2* MRI in patients with major beta thalassemia. ...
متن کاملبررسی ارزش تشخیصی MRI در مقایسه با اکوکاردیوگرافی ترانس توراسیک در تعیین خصوصیات توده های قلبی
Background: Cardiac tumors are usually asymptomatic diseases. Considering the anatomic position of the heart, it is necessary to identify their nature before every aggressive intervention. The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of MRI and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) assessment of cardiac masses. Methods: In a cross-sectional survey from April 2010 to March 2013...
متن کاملThe Role of MRI in the Diagnosis of Post-sternotomy Injuries of the Brachial Plexus
Brachial Plexus Injury (BPI) is an uncommon complication of median sternotomy capable of causing a permanent or transitory sensitivity and/or motor function impairment in the upper limbs. During a cardiac surgery through sternotomy, for the assessment of the thoracic cage configuration and the site of mediastinal structures, a broader surgical field may be required. If the sternal retractors ar...
متن کاملEvaluation of the relationship between hepatic and cardiac iron overload with MRI T2* and carotid intima media thickness with Doppler ultrasound in beta thalassemia major patients
Background: Iron overload is caused early progression of atherosclerosis in beta thalassemia patients due to regular repeated blood transfusion. MRI T2* is a gold standard non-invasive method for detecting hepatic and cardiac iron overload. The aim of this study was the comparison of carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) in the patients and healthy control groups with Doppler ultrasound for ear...
متن کاملComparison of iron chelation effects of deferoxamine, deferasirox, and combination of deferoxamine and deferiprone on liver and cardiac T2* MRI in thalassemia maior
Background: Cardiac complications due to iron overload are the most common cause of death in patients with thalassemia major. The aim of this study was to compare iron chelation effects of deferoxamine, deferasirox, and combination of deferoxamine and deferiprone on cardiac and liver iron load measured by T2* MRI. Methods: In this study, 108 patients with thalassemia major aged over 10 years...
